ABOUT

Through my films an angst and heavy pessimism is presented, what offsets this is a self-awareness, both for the medium that I use, film, and for the socio-political placement I find myself in.  The process of creating these films is multifaceted, it is dependant on a thorough research period which runs itself alongside a construction of a set or space.

The medium of film allows me to completely control the space that the viewers are seated in, this control is both literal and metaphysical.  Literal in the sense that the sets themselves are treated as a tool, a space to which film in, and metaphysical as those sets are treated as objects which transport the viewer to either a time period or a completely new space.  But what seems to be an undiagnosed theme is the awareness of the space outside of these sets and how the fragility of perception can be so easily broken or enhanced by just the simple act of peering around the corner of a plywood wall of a film set.

Like the works of Anne Hardy, Daria Martine, Rachel Maclean, what I appreciate is their abilities to create a foe reality which playfully reflects our own.  Particularly the work of Racheal Maclean, who’s work rides on a playful crude humour to allow herself to explore such devastating realities.

My films tend not to be pleasant nor do they wish to hold the viewers hand, but they are humorous, self-indulgent, and at the same time look at the audiences for gratification.  Like with the sets themselves my own agenda is forced into the space through the making process and through the filming.

I want the viewers of my films to feel confused, to feel confronted, but to also laugh at the situation.  The films that I make are like a jester doing a trick with fire, but during the act the jester stumbles and ends up burning himself to alive.
